Fees and rebates
You do not need a referral to see a psychologist. However, if you wish to receive a rebate from Medicare you will need a referral from your GP. The Better Access Programme is designed to improve access to mental health care and, if you are eligible, provides a rebate of $145.25 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Speak to your GP to see if you are eligible for a referral under the Better Access Programme.
You may also be eligible to a rebate from your private health fund. Funds and plans vary, so please speak to your fund to see if you are eligible.
